Jessica Mesmer Magnus, Ph.D. is a Professor of Management. She teaches courses in human resource management and organization- al behavior, and was awarded the Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award as well as UNCW’s Distinguished Teaching Professorship. Her research is on team cognition and behavior, workplace humor, and work/family conflict. She’s published over 40 peer-reviewed publications in numerous journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Human Performance, Human Resource Management Review, and Journal of Vocational Behavior. Her work has been supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Science Foundation. She consults with companies on effective teams. Jessica was a human resource manager and consultant for a national environmental engineering consulting rm. She is certified as a Senior Human Resource Professional (SPHR) and Society for Human Re- source Management’s Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).She grew up in St. Petersburg, FL, and has lived in Gainesville, FL, Marco Island, FL, Galveston, TX, and Newport News, VA before settling in Wilmington, NC.
