Ryan Renninger
Committee
Abstract
This paper describes the analysis and implementation of a financial budgeting system in a corporate environment. The project undertaken included financial budgeting for an information systems management group with whom the author was employed. The primary software tools used in the budgeting process included: Excel, MS Access, Oracle ERP and Cognos, with additional tools used to enhance usability. These tools collectively enable the Information Management team to better forecast budgets for projects. A detailed process was mapped out to demonstrate the sequence in which these tools were used. In addition detailed notes were taken on the project management methodology used and a prototype was created from these notes for a budget worksheet and change control board that was implemented for the Cognos team to help them organize and prioritize the large amount of reports being requested.
