Cameron Executive Network Mentor
Kevin Welch
In my current role as the Director of Operations with Port City Java, I directly oversee a team of five people who in turn are responsible for the daily operations of approximately 20 retail locations, comprising approximately 200 employees. The long-term planning and vision that I am responsible for providing must translate into successful daily and weekly operational excellence and consistency across multiple locations, with multiple operating partners in multiple counties. As a leader in a small-to-medium locally owned business, I navigate the organization through a very competitive landscape with daily market share challenges. When I am not required to be at my office for meetings, I can be found in our cafes, meeting with the leaders responsible for seeing our vision through successfully. I am a proud graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Wilmington program; that experience has helped shape my professional voice, has shown me the power of networking and has refined my public speaking presence. I have developed a series of Leadership Development Sessions, which are interactive presentations designed for emerging leaders, helping them learn and apply the lessons of leadership. Outside of work, my hobbies include playing the guitar and drums, working in the yard with my favorite tool (my chainsaw!), reading a good book or doing a crossword. My wife and I lead a pretty simple life with our dog, family and friends. I believe strongly that a balance between work and home life is essential for mental health and the health of the relationships we have.
