Cameron Executive Network Mentor

Eric Holmes

Eric Holmes I had a varied career spanning private business, military and government positions. As a Chief Information Officer (CIO) your role covers a variety of core functions from Information Technology (IT), Information Management (IM) and Cyber Security (CS). The breadth spans from executive leadership to deck plate workers. I have interviewed many people for multiple positions. There are skills to interviewing but being yourself in communications is important. Leadership involves motivating, training and managing a team. Metrics shape your priorities and can determine success. Retirement allows you to devote time to important areas in your life not dependent on income. I am chairman of ‘Operation at Ease’, a local community-based charity of 300 volunteers that bring military families into our community for a weekend of rest and relaxation. Organizing a team requires tools including the use of social media. Our weather is great for year-round golf and pickleball. I lead a weekly bible study group. As a retired submariner, I experienced working in a unique platform that blends engineering and managerial skills I acquired in both my MBA and MSME. As a professor, you strive to reach the student to get the light on. Many students don’t know the best methods of test taking or studying. At the US Naval Academy I received the ‘Clements Award’ as the best military instructor.
