Dr. Kevin D. Matthews (he/him) is an Associate Professor of Information System (IS) at the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Prior to joining UNCW as tenure-track faculty in 2020, he served as an Assistant Professor of IS at Ohio University for two years.
Dr. Matthews attended Clemson University in South Carolina where he completed a PhD in Business Administration in 2019 with a concentration in IS. Dr. Matthews is also an alum of UNCW where he earned his Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems (MSCSIS) in 2008 and subsequently taught IS courses for five years before continuing his studies at Clemson. Prior to his time at UNCW, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Matthews has entrepreneurial experience, having operated a web development firm in Wilmington from 2008 through 2013. Through this venture, he designed and developed websites and data-driven, web-based systems for local businesses across North Carolina. In other, non-academic roles, Dr. Matthews worked in several varied industries such as food service, retail, warehousing, collections & call centers, graphic design & marketing, secondary education (high school Mathematics), wealth management, and air travel. A proud native of North Carolina, Dr. Matthews is a first generation college student and grew up on a farm just outside of Fayetteville, NC.
